When I was 20 years old, I hopped on a plane to fly 16 hours away from home. Before that, I had never been out of the country, had only seen the ocean once, and, in fact, I had never even been on a plane! It was my college study abroad trip and I was going to be on the other side of the world for the entire summer.
And it turned out to be the best summer of my life.
I knew after that trip, traveling was going to be a big part of my life.
Today, my world looks a little different. On any given day, I’m drowning in laundry, battling a sink full of dishes, or changing a diaper… again. I’m a stay-at-home mom of two toddlers, and that is where my focus lies. But my love for travel remains. Ever since arriving home after that first trip, I am always dreaming of the next destination, the next vacation, and the next new memory.
I don’t travel the world for a living. I can’t hop on the next plane out just because the price is great. I haven’t been to every country under the sun. Don’t get me wrong, I would LOVE to be that person. But, like so many women my age, that lifestyle doesn’t fit my family for right now. I can’t given you an Instagram version of a jet setting life. What I can give you is real life with a little travel mixed in.
I’m starting Travel with Sloan as a way to document mine and my family’s travels. In the midst of this stay-at-home mom lifestyle I’m currently living, it gives me something that is just for me! A creative outlet where I can put pen to paper and bring our family memories to life. I hope you enjoy learning a little about our travels, and I hope these posts can help you with your travels, too!
